A Tale of More Than Two Cities
Apostle1.com's Commentary & Opinion
From Our Vladyka +Thaddeus
This article to the left is an adaptation of a message that had been sent to me from a Greek Orthodox group and which I feel applies to all Orthodox Catholic Christian Jurisdictions, Archdioceses, Dioceses and Parishes across North and South America. I make no apology for this and feel it applies to many larger segments of the root and branch of Christianity established by Jesus Christ and the Holy Apostles of which we are Apostles as their Successors in a long line of successors...
The novel by Charles Dickens begins:
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the Season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the season of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us..."
Although the Dickens novel is about London and Paris at a time of upheaval, the description might today be applied to every one of the Metropolises of all Orthodox jurisdictions and Archdioceses across America.
The Orthodox Church today is witness to what many clergy continue to witness – a stifled parochialism among many jurisdictions, archdiocese, diocese and parishes with no desire to introduce our holy faith to others, Even now there are some who insist in maintaining this clubhouse mentality and having no interest even toward sister jurisdictions and parishes.
Unfortunately the only changes we have witnessed in the life of the Church of late are the increasing number of divorces among our clergy and a preference on the part of a limited number of other clergy in abnormal lifestyles which will prevent them from entering the Kingdom of God."
And what of the "other" city in this Tale of Two Cities?
With the Constantinopolitan Patriarch snuggling closer to the Roman Jurisdiction's Pope Benedict XVI, it only stands to reason that all the horrors of false syncretism is about become more wide-spread. Take a look at what has been and continues to be happening on Mt. Athos and you see the horrors that was predicted by St. John Maximovtich of Shanghai & San Francisco, Blessed Father Seraphim Rose and all those who predeceased them... Constantinople is pretty much hemmed in because of Turkey's stanglehold and the Greek government is holding sway over Mt. Athos too which is to back up the Patriarch in it's siege of Mt. Athos.
Rome, thinking itself as the only authority as to who is or is not "Catholic" has reinvented history by using mass psychology on the world with many of it's present day inherent false beliefs such as its being the head and wholeness of what is Christian or Catholic when the facts of historical truth clearly points to the fact that Rome, even prior to their schism in 1054 A.D., separated from the root and branch of Christianity followed by their numerous bastard children of Protestantism, especially the false and misleading doctrines and dogmas of mainline Pentecostalism.
The Roman Jurisdiction of the Catholic Church initially ceded, separated and schismed from that which was established by Jesus Christ, the Holy Apostles and the Seven Ecumenical Councils when Cardinal Humbert desecrated St. Sophia when he (in 1054 A.D.) rode his horse into the Cathedral, right up to and on the altar dropped the bull of excommunication which was, unbeknown to the Cardinal, null and void because the Bishop of Rome at that time had passed away. However, the desecration, according to the ancient Seven Oecumenical Councils caused for the Roman Jurisdiction of the Catholic Church to be automatically defrocked and excommunication. A self excommunication which the Roman Jurisdiction failed and continues to refuse to accept for itself as being the first primary jurisdiction to have separated itself from the root and branch of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ! This is relevant FACT of historical truth.
Has there ever been any apology? In its arrogance, Rome continues to believe and think of herself as the leader and head, shall we say, errantly "Pope" of all other bishops, jurisdictions, etc.
Benedict XVI of Rome continues also in these present times to do the same even though he has used practically every piece of propaganda and vice to get the Patriarch of Constantinople and now even attempts to court the Russian Patriarch to come under him/them as a method and means to "heal" the schism. If the Bishop ("Pope") of Rome would admit error, seek forgiveness openly and void the heretical teachings of Romanism as it exists today, the healing could truly begin in the spirit that Jesus Christ would most certainly accept. But that is not the going to happen because Rome's arrogance is no different than it was in 1054 A.D. and therefore is the hidden agenda. An agenda that prevails even into these present times...
Oh, Yes! Lest we forget... New Rome will finally establish in due time a true NEW ROME in Jerusalem in times to come... while continuing with it's Rome as presently ensconced in Italy. This will be the beginning of the ONE WORLD CHURCH of which the World Council of Churches, the World Council of Bishops and others will bow down to the false god which so-called Evangelicals and others will be at the head to lead others toward, along with Mormons, Pentecostals and Jehovah's Wittnesses, etc. including, obviously, the Roman Jurisdiction of the Catholic Church.
Mammon is the gluttony of many a poor jurisdiction of the true faith... A gluttony that prevails in many of the present day jurisdictions that is growing and becoming the very thing that was said should be shunned and turned away from... a gluttony that goes beyond just materialism but invades even the spirituality of a Church becoming filled with heresy by just accepting the Roman overtures.
Any Jurisdiction of Orthodoxy that has or will snuggle close to Rome (as some are already under the Roman Pope's thumb) shall be cast out and away in the final judgment for its and their failure or refusal to abide by all things handed down through time and history ....
The historian Arthur M Schelsinger, Jr., has written about leadership and tests that can be applied to determine if leaders are going to lead for good or for evil.
Schlesinger asks: "Do leaders lead by force or by persuasion? By command or by consent?" He goes on to say: "It is easy to issue commands and enforce them by the rope and the stake, the concentration camp and the gulag. It is much harder to use argument and achievement to overcome opposition and win consent."
By now it should be abundantly clear to everyone that the majority of Orthodox jurisdictions in America cannot retain their own, much less grow and reach out to all those who are searching for the true faith without the informed and willing participation of the faithful -- and that this informed and willing participation can only be achieved by Church leadership that is both responsible and transparent.
Calling upon Church leaders to be both responsible and transparent is not "anti-Hierarchical." Quoting Schlesinger once more: "No leader is infallible, and every leader needs to be reminded of this at regular intervals. Irreverence irritates leaders but it is their salvation. Unquestioning submission corrupts leaders and demeans followers." Just take a look at the Roman Jurisdiction which once was a part of but schismed from Orthodox Catholic Christianity....
Pray for them....
