US Supreme Court Sidesteps Same-Sex "Marriage" Issue

But Roman Catholic Conference Maintains Its Objective

BOSTON, NOV. 29, 2004 - The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to sidestep a dispute over same-sex "marriages" hasn't changed the goal of the Massachusetts Roman Catholic Conference, which wants citizens to have a say in the matter.

The U.S. Supreme Court today declined, without comment, to overturn the year-old decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Court legalizing same-sex "marriage."

In the past year, at least 3,000 gay Massachusetts couples have gone through a wedding ceremony, although voters may have a chance next year to change the state Constitution to permit civil union benefits to same-sex couples.

In a statement, the Massachusetts Catholic Conference said: "The decision by the United States Supreme Court not to take up the appeal in Largess v. Supreme Judicial Court of [Massachusetts] is disappointing but not surprising."

"The appeal raised the issue of whether last year's ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) redefining marriage, and usurping the legislature's power to regulate marriage, violated a clause in the U.S. Constitution requiring the states to maintain a 'republican form of government," the conference added.

"The lower federal courts in the appeal decided that this clause did not apply to separation of powers violations," the Roman Catholic conference said. "They also concluded that the people in Massachusetts still retained the power to overturn the SJC through a constitutional amendment. Appeals based on this clause are difficult to win.

"The goal remains -- the people of Massachusetts should have the opportunity to reaffirm marriage as the union between one man and one woman. A constitutional amendment reversing the SJC, and giving marriage the strongest protection possible, should be brought to the people for their consideration."

A conservative group of people in various states claim that the real issue is not about "marriage" which is for a man and woman uniting in Holy Wedlock, but a means whereby the same legal guarantees as exists between a man and women can be obtained for those of long-term same sex relationships so that they are not burdened by the many other hurdles that same sex relationships have to overcome in order to obtain medical and other insurance coverage, rights to visit their loved one's when sick, rights to obtain tax relief in shared property areas, and so much more.

The group also said that the real problem is that states have opted to not provide for the problem but to exaggerate it without finding a resolution to it because of misconceptions about what the real Christian Holy Bible has had to say, not the many versions which have been translated falsely to meet a political agenda and to which many falsely believe it to be errantly true when it is false and misleading.  The words of the Holy Bible in use that exacerbates the issues is "Sodomy" and "Homosexuality" when the original writings had said only about "Sodomy".  The mistaken beliefs about what the Holy Apostles had written for their times on earth concerning men sleeping with men, etc. was to do with "Sodomy" for in the various languages that the Holy Bible was written, there existed words and terms which directly point to "Homosexuality" but were never included.  The Holy Bible has been adulterated with many false understandings based on errant misuse, even by so-called Biblical scholars.

The issues surrounding the political legalisms of these times surround that of personal agendas and political votes which equates to the financial flow charts of most political organizations who are pressured by bigotry and prejudice which boils down to discrimination against a minority who have been historically shown to be supporters and even defenders of this nation.

The issue concerning same-sex relationships and their fight to obtain such legal rights are often misunderstood and blown out of context of the reality of their goals by invoking today's false understandings about religious beliefs that did not necessarily exist in ancient times as it does in these.  The real problem, said one individual, is that those who oppose believe it is all right for the "good ole boys" to be whoremongers among their heterosexual communities without living up to the very Holy Bible they believe in, while denigrating and claiming sins against those of alternate lifestyles.  This is true of many a politician as the electronic news media reports.  This is the "Beam" in thy "Brother's eye" while themselves are unable to take out their own "plank" that is in their own.

"Sodomy" after all, is not peculiar to homosexuals but to heterosexuals to an even greater degree than most believe, which is a sin against God, as is promiscuity (both heterosexual and homosexual), etc. .
