2004.10.31 Rt. Rev. Tikhon of San Francisco: Orthodox scholar reposes The learned Archimandrite Ambrosius (Pogodin) reposed at Spring Valley and will be returned to the Diocese of the West this coming week, it is believed, for funeral and burial, probably at Serbian Cemetery. Father Amvrossy was a prolific writer, translator, and scholar, as well as a talented concert pianist.

He regularly contributed articles and translated works of the Greek Fathers to various learned Russian periodicals and also published translations into Russian (books) of much other Greek historical material. He served parishes in ROCOR, in the MP, and in the OCA. His longest term of service was in the Nativity of the Virgin parish in Menlo Park, California. He also previously served at the ROCOR parish in Rome and was an official ROCOR observer at Vatican II. Father Amvrossy was also a great lover of cats, especially Siamese. The schedule is still preliminary since the deceased's body is still in NY and its transportation to the West Coast is being arranged.
