TRUTH IS ETERNAL
To my dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, one often hears the question; "What is truth?" Along with this question also are the statements that the Bible or the teachings of the Church are open to interpretation. I have even heard people, who proclaim to be Catholic or Christian, make the statement that since the Church is a living and breathing entity, it must be open to change with the "times".
Let me answer the question; "What is truth?" first. Truth is black and white. There are no gray areas. Truth is eternal, it does not change with the times or the whims of the people. Truth is absolute and remains constant throughout time and space. Truth tells us what is moral and ethical, right and wrong, good and evil, sin and virtue. What was right and wrong in the days of Adam and Eve, remains right and wrong today. God the Father is TRUTH, Jesus Christ the Son is TRUTH, and the Holy Spirit is TRUTH.
As to the statement that the Bible and/or the teachings of the Church is open to interpretation, this is not always true, sometimes things mean exactly what they say. One must have the gift of discernment to know the difference.
In regard to the statement that since the Church is a living and breathing entity, so it must be open to change, that is only partly true. Yes the Church is a living and breathing entity, it is the Bride of Christ, but it cannot change when it comes to the TRUTH. Those who are bent out of shape because the Church won't change its' stand concerning abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, women priests, all I can say is too bad. Nobody is forcing anyone to be Christian, Catholic or Orthodox. If one wishes to be a member of a true Christian community, then it us up to them to change their ways (repent) to conform to the moral teachings of the Church. One has NO RIGHT to demand that the Church change to fit one's immoral or sinful life-style. The Church's responsibility is to lead souls to Christ Jesus and to uphold and defend the TRUTH and holy traditions that were handed down from Jesus Christ through his Apostles and the early Fathers of the Church.
The Church must stand for the TRUTH or it stands for NOTHING, and if stands for nothing, it will cease to be the Church.
Very Rev. Fr. Abbot +Gregori, SSJt.
N. B. - Again, let us reiterate that "God the Father is TRUTH, Jesus Christ the Son is TRUTH, and the Holy Spirit is TRUTH." The Life and Teachings of the Church is the Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ upon whom all things come from if we are a Church (Faith) based on TRUTH!
